"Despite its seemingly insignificant size and lack of notoriety, the present-day community of Sugar Camp is the result of over one hundred years of intriguing history. Perhaps what sets Sugar Camp apart from its larger neighbors is the close-knit nature and cohesive atmosphere of the community. Families, generation after generation, continue to reside in this small community where everyone knows everyone. Although the residents send their teen-aged children to school in Three Lakes, and most often work in Rhinelander or Eagle River, Sugar Camp maintains its own identity." in his book Sugar Camp 1891-1941
